Welcome to Cafe'de Kapitan

530-1 Kanza, Kosai, Shizuoka 431-0405, Japan

General Info

Tucked away in a მშვიდ corner of Kosai, Cafe'de Kapitan feels like one of those places you stumble upon and instantly want to keep to yourself. The atmosphere leans toward quiet and romantic, making it ideal whether you’re easing into your morning or taking a relaxed lunch break away from the crowds.

Walking in, the first thing that stands out is how calm everything feels. The space isn’t trying too hard-it’s simple, cozy, and thoughtfully arranged. There’s a wheelchair accessible entrance, which makes the café welcoming for a wide range of visitors. It’s the kind of spot where you can sit down, slow your pace, and actually enjoy your time rather than rush through a meal.

The menu reflects that same easygoing charm. If you’re arriving early, the モーニングカピタンセット is a great way to start the day. It’s balanced, satisfying, and pairs perfectly with their signature ホットコーヒーセット. The coffee here is clearly taken seriously, and that becomes even more obvious when you try the ダッチコーヒー ポット入り. Served in a pot, it feels a little special-smooth, rich, and ideal for lingering over conversation or simply enjoying a quiet moment.

For lunch, the café keeps things light yet fulfilling. The B Set Salad stands out as a fresh, well-prepared option that doesn’t feel like an afterthought. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a quick bite without sacrificing quality. Everything feels carefully assembled, which adds to the overall dining experience.

And then there’s the ケーキセット, which honestly shouldn’t be skipped. Whether you’re stopping by just for dessert or extending your visit into the afternoon, this set adds a sweet, comforting finish. Paired with coffee, it rounds out the experience in a way that feels both indulgent and relaxed.

From a reviewer’s perspective, what makes this café memorable isn’t just the food or drinks-it’s how everything comes together. The quiet ambiance, the thoughtful menu, and the overall sense of calm create a space that feels personal. It’s easy to see why reviews often highlight the atmosphere as much as the dishes. If you’re exploring locations around Kosai and want something low-key yet genuinely enjoyable, this café delivers exactly that kind of experience.

What customers say?

“ Not only is the exterior beautiful, but the interior is also furnished with Western antique(?) furniture, creating a relaxing space. The teacups, which perfectly match the classical atmosphere, were also a great touch. I had a set of pasta, salad, and a drink for lunch. The portion was just right and delicious. Above all, spending a relaxing and elegant time listening to classical music is a treat for the soul. Next time, I'd like to come at a different time and enjoy brunch or afternoon tea. ”

“ They serve authentic coffee. They serve it using a siphon. They even have cold-brew coffee! (Hot and iced) The flavor is punchy. I think it could be a little weaker. The interior and tableware exude a luxurious feel. (^_^;) Thank you for the meal. ”

“ This restaurant has a beautiful exterior that suddenly appears in the middle of nature. I was curious and looked it up, and I discovered that "Kapitan" refers to the "trading chief," the highest-ranking official at the East India Company's trading post in Japan during the Edo period. Apparently, the word originally means "chief of associates" in Portuguese. The interior has a very classical atmosphere. Classical music plays in the background, and the interior is filled with equally classical furnishings and Western films. Time passes slowly, creating a sense of calm. I ordered the "Pasta Lunch A" for 1,200 yen. From the six or seven pasta options, I chose the "Eggplant and Bacon with Tomato Sauce." It comes with a salad and a drink after the meal. The eggplant in the pasta was crisp and crisp. The pasta, cooked just right, blended beautifully with the rich tomato sauce. The hostess (or landlady?) who served me was also kind and polite. From what I've heard from other customers, the beef stew here is delicious. I'd like to try it if I have the chance. ”

“ The atmosphere is very relaxing. I ordered the afternoon tea set and siphon coffee. The coffee has a smooth, unobtrusive taste. There's even a full cup for refills. The scones are soft, flavorful, and delicious. I highly recommend it. ”
